HVACi releases Annual Claims Report highlighting HVAC equipment, perils, and trends impacting policyholders in 2024.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Already this year, policyholders across the country have filed claims for damages related to wind, hail, wildfires, and water. However, these causes of loss, when attributed to HVAC and refrigeration failures, are often not related and could lead to unnecessary insurance settlements, according to the newly released HVACi 2024 Annual Claims Report.

Among the key findings in the report are that 39% of the evaluated HVAC and refrigeration equipment was found to have an actual cause of loss not typically covered by insurance policies, and more than 50% of all reported causes of loss were recategorized to a more accurate conclusion following an objective independent assessment.

The team at HVACi, the nation's leading provider of residential and commercial HVAC and refrigeration assessments and desktop reviews for insurance carriers, compiled data from all their assignments last year to incorporate into the report. Their analysis offers an in-depth look at HVAC and refrigeration systems included in claims, along with the perils that commonly affect them. The HVACi 2024 Annual Claims Report features statistics related to residential, commercial, and multi-system large loss claims, as well as a 2024 Claims Overview.

"The annual claims report is an extension of our efforts to provide actionable intelligence to insurance professionals involved in all facets of property insurance," said Damon Stafford, HVACi's founder and CEO of its parent company Alpine Intel. "By sharing our assessment analyses, carriers can make more informed decisions in 2025 about policies and claims processes. For us, data transparency is just as important as delivering our comprehensive assessment reports to adjusters to make fact-based decisions on individual claims."

More than 100 different types of residential and commercial HVAC systems are represented in the report, and readers can compare average repair and replacement costs for both residential and commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems as well as average claimed amounts verses HVACi's recommended settlements.

The data reiterates the frequent disparities between reported causes of loss and objective, accurate cause of loss determinations as well as the extent of damage to claimed systems. Graphs illustrate how often systems with verified damages from perils such as hail or wind need minor to major repairs in lieu of replacements. For those who frequently handle catastrophe claims, the annual report also includes an analysis of claims stemming from Hurricanes Helene, Beryl, and Milton to demonstrate how often damages were unrelated.

The HVACi 2024 Annual Claims Report is available for free as part of HVACi and Alpine Intel's mission to provide expert facts, resources, and solutions for insurance professionals nationwide.
