Billionaire Bill Gates Has 66% of His Foundation's $44 Billion Portfolio Invested in 3 Phenomenal Stocks

Bill Gates would be worth well over $1 trillion today if he never gave up a single share of the 45% stake in Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) he held just after the company's 1986 initial public offering. Over the last 39 years, however, he has strategically sold off shares of the company he founded to diversify his personal investments and donate much of his wealth to charity.Most of Gates' charitable donations go to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which aims to enhance healthcare and reduce poverty around the world. Gates isn't the only billionaire donating to the foundation. Warren Buffett has made an annual contribution since 2006. The CEO of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A) (NYSE: BRK.B) also served as a trustee until 2021.The foundation's trust includes an equity portfolio with a value of about $44 billion as of this writing.
