Nationally, French Bulldog Holds On To The Top Spot

NEW YORK, March 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- For the third year in a row, the French Bulldog took Columbus's top spot in the American Kennel Club's (AKC®) 2024 ranking of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds in the U.S.

The French Bulldog was also recognized as the #1 pup in St. Louis, MO and Philadelphia, PA.

While the Frenchie stayed at number one, two other breeds made strides in the charts. The Great Dane broke the top 10, jumping to number 10, and the Rhodesian Ridgeback made a huge jump from the 44th spot to the 18th.

"This is a monumental stride for the Rhodesian Ridgeback, and it is no surprise," said AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo. "They are an incredibly affectionate breed and make for great watch dogs, so they always have your back!"

A breed's popularity does not mean it is the right breed for you. The AKC encourages dog lovers to do their research and find the right breed for your lifestyle to begin your journey of responsible dog ownership.
