These leadership changes come as part of the company's strategic plans to scale operations, meet increasing demand, and further expand its capabilities across defense, offshore energy, and commercial markets.

John Russ, previously President of ThayerMahan Ocean Technologies, has been appointed COO. Russ, a former submarine squadron commander, will oversee the company's growing operations, ensuring the successful delivery of advanced maritime systems and services to defense and commercial clients alike. His deep understanding of maritime technologies and operational excellence will be crucial as ThayerMahan scales its government, defense, construction, and infrastructure capabilities.

Mike Varney, who previously served as ThayerMahan Ocean Technology's Vice President of Business Operations & Strategy, will step into the role of President of ThayerMahan Ocean Technologies. Mike, a former nuclear-powered submarine commander and Bronze Star recipient, scaled and sold an AI data integration company to GE Digital prior to joining ThayerMahan in 2021. His expertise in industrial AI, product management, and strategic consulting will enable him to lead ThayerMahan Ocean Technologies as it continues to develop and deploy cutting-edge systems that address the most pressing maritime challenges.

The leadership changes come as ThayerMahan continues to capitalize on growing market demand for autonomous maritime systems. With defense and offshore sectors experiencing a rising need for advanced monitoring technologies, ThayerMahan is committed to expanding its footprint and accelerating its capabilities to meet these demands.

CEO Mike Connor said, "ThayerMahan continues to grow. After our commercial sector led by Richard Hine experienced explosive growth last year, the manufacturing and government services sectors are ramping up this year. The new organization allows us to scale with leaders who understand our technology and our customers. I am confident that Mike Varney and John Russ will take us to the next level."

As part of its 2025 growth strategy, ThayerMahan is actively seeking top talent to support its scaling efforts. The company plans to add more than 50 employees across engineering, operations, and manufacturing to its existing highly skilled workforce. In addition, ThayerMahan is doubling its manufacturing floorspace to meet the increasing demand for its autonomous maritime systems. The expansion will allow ThayerMahan to increase production capacity for its best-of-breed autonomous, long-dwell systems including Outpost® and SeaPicket.
