The political turmoil sparked by the imposition of martial law on Dec. 3 is only intensifying, if not evolving. The confusion surrounding the situation appears to be escalating, as evidenced by the bewildering attempt by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials (CIO) to detain President Yoon Suk Yeol on charges of insurrection, and his firm resistance to the move. While former Korean presidents have faced impeachment or been impeached, they have typically cooperated with investigations.
