New Research Reveals 82% Of Rehab Therapy Leaders Believe Specialty EHRs Would Improve Patient and Business Outcomes
Study commissioned by Net Health uncovers the need for enhanced rehab therapy EHRs
PITTSBURGH, March 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Net Health, a trusted source for specialized software solutions that empower healthcare providers, today announced the findings from a January 2025 commissioned Forrester Consulting Opportunity Snapshot study titled, "Improve Clinical Outcomes and Grow Practices with Rehab-Specific, Next-Gen EHR." The industry study reveals that despite being central to clinical data management, many Electronic Health Record (EHR) platforms are inadequate in several critical areas.
The survey of 208 rehab therapy leaders from private practices, hospitals, and contract therapy organizations highlights a shared urgency to upgrade EHR platforms to achieve accelerated growth, remain scalable, and meet clinical and business goals. It also shows that rehab therapy leaders recognize the need to enhance their EHR platforms and implement artificial intelligence (AI)-powered tools to drive automation, predictive analytics, improved patient outcomes, and operational efficiency.
"A new generation of EHR platforms is essential for rehab therapy providers to deliver care and scale their businesses effectively," said Francesca Vereb, Senior Vice President, Marketing at Net Health. "The Forrester study underscores the need for specialized EHR systems for rehab therapy practices. Success today is about the need for clinical and operational efficiency, and the ability to consistently produce defensible documentation."
Rehab therapy leaders are focused on several key priorities to drive growth and improve operations, including improving decision-making at the point of care (80%), optimizing EHR data analytics (76%), reducing billing errors (75%), and enhancing the ability to view organizational performance in real time for better decision-making (69%).
Many rehab therapy practices are turning to AI-driven EHR platforms to meet these challenges. Fifty eight percent of survey participants have already implemented advanced, AI-powered EHR analytics, and an additional 15% are in the process of adopting these technologies. However, a significant gap remains, as 51% of respondents identified the lack of predictive analytics as a critical shortcoming in their current EHR systems.
Despite the potential benefits, a striking 94% of respondents reported facing obstacles, such as concerns over data security, a shortage of internal skills and resources, and difficulties integrating new systems with existing infrastructure. The consequences of neglecting EHR analytics are undeniable: without enhancements, practices will fall behind, so it's paramount that they prioritize upgrading their systems to enhance clinical decision-making and operational efficiency.
