InventHelp Inventors Develop High Reliability Variable Resistor for 10x Operating Cycles (OCC-1742)

PITTSBURGH, March 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- "Our goal was to increase the operating cycles of a conventional potentiometer by a factor of ten, while achieving cost parity with PCB-based potentiometers," said one of the Irvine, CA based inventors. "This resulted in the design of our high reliability variable resistor topology. As opposed to conventional potentiometer implementations, our patent-pending design eliminates the contact of the wiper with the resistive elements."

The invention results in a low-cost, high-reliability, and long-service life analog potentiometer for a wide range of analog and digital electronic circuit applications. In addition to achieving cost parity with other high-volume potentiometers, this design provides improved resistor tolerance by eliminating the wear on the resistive element. To further reduce system costs, an isolated power ON/OFF function can be included with virtually no increase in manufacturing cost. This design allows for integration of the potentiometer functionality directly onto a PCB, making it ideal for manufacturers of printed circuit boards, as well as implementation as an individual component. Prototypes and technical documentation are available upon request.

The original design was submitted to the Orange County sales office of InventHelp. It is currently available for licensing or sale to manufacturers or marketers.
