New Era Notifies Individuals of a Security Incident
HOUSTON, Feb. 14, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- New Era Life Insurance Companies ("New Era")1 recently began notifying individuals of a security incident involving their information. New Era provides insurance and financial solutions, as well as third-party administrative services to other insurance carriers.
On December 18, 2024, New Era identified suspicious activity in its IT network. New Era immediately initiated its incident response protocols, which included isolating certain systems and beginning an investigation with assistance from a third-party cybersecurity firm. The investigation determined that an unauthorized person accessed New Era's IT network between December 9, 2024, and December 18, 2024, and, during that time, copied certain files from its systems. New Era analyzed the data that may have been involved, which completed on January 31, 2025. Through this analysis, New Era identified files containing certain policy holders' personal information. The data involved varied by individual, but generally included names, addresses, dates of birth, insurance ID numbers, and/or medical information related to claims, such as diagnosis, procedure type, or provider name. For certain individuals, the information also included their Social Security number.
New Era received some of the information involved from or on behalf of its insurance carrier partners in connection with the third-party administration services it provides. New Era notified applicable insurance carrier partners of the incident on February 3, 2025.
New Era mailed notification letters to individuals whose information was identified in the files and for whom it had sufficient contact information. New Era has also established a dedicated, toll-free call center to answer questions individuals may have about the incident. Individuals with questions can call (888) 686-4412, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Central Time. New Era is providing eligible individuals with a complimentary membership to credit monitoring and identity protection support services through Experian. Additionally, the notification letters remind individuals that it is always a good idea to carefully review the statements they receive and/or free credit reports for any unauthorized activity or services they did not receive.
To help prevent something like this from happening again, New Era has implemented, and will continue to adopt, additional safeguards and technical security measures to further protect and monitor its systems.
