Nationally, French Bulldog Holds On To The Top Spot

NEW YORK, March 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- For the seventh year in a row, the French Bulldog took Miami's top spot in the American Kennel Club's (AKC^®) 2024 ranking of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds in the U.S.

The French Bulldog was also recognized as the #1 pup in Los Angeles, CA and Houston, TX.

The Frenchie isn't the only small but mighty breed taking over the top five. The spunky Dachshund now sits pretty at the fourth most popular breed in Miami. Additionally, the fearless Boxer is making moves in popularity, punching its way up the list into the top ten.  

"Miami clearly has a theme when it comes to their favorite breeds," said AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo. "They love the companionship that a French Bulldog and Dachshund can bring in addition to an active guardian like the Boxer. All three happen to make great family dogs too."

The American Kennel Club also announced its nationwide rankings today. It's a three-peat for the Frenchie! The beloved French Bulldog is America's most popular breed for the third year in a row, according to AKC registration statistics.

While the playful and adaptable French Bulldog's popularity shows no signs of slowing, the smart and courageous Cane Corso has been quietly climbing the charts since becoming recognized by the AKC in 2010. Over the past decade, registrations for this loyal breed have increased 414% and it has gone from 48^th most popular in 2014 to 14^th in 2024.
