D.Law Celebrates Arrival of Brandon Ruiz, Experienced Employment Litigator and Director of New Summer Associate Program
LOS ANGELES , Feb. 12, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- D.Law is celebrating the arrival of attorney Brandon Ruiz, former partner at Henning Kramer Ruiz & Singh, LLP, who in addition to bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of employment law will be founding and directing D.Law's new Summer Associate Program.
A highly regarded plaintiff-side employment litigator, Ruiz has extensive experience in Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) and wage-and-hour issues—but his greatest passion is helping prepare future lawyers who, like him, are committed to bringing justice to hardworking people.
"I came to D.Law because I wanted to try something different than day-to-day litigation," says Ruiz. "D.Law gave me this wonderful opportunity to create a program to train and nurture the growth of the next generation of legal talent—the next generation of what I hope to be some of the best attorneys in the business."
The Summer Associate Program offers the most promising future lawyers across the country the opportunity to work with, and learn from, seasoned employment attorneys at D.Law. The intensive, 10-week course is designed to provide a select group of second-year law students with a structured curriculum of weekly workshops focused on key areas of labor and employment law litigation.
"To my knowledge, D.Law's program for the summer associates is completely unique," Ruiz notes. "No other plaintiff's firm that I know of does this level of investment in its summer associates to make sure that they are ready to practice from day one."
Participants will be given lessons and assignments connected to actively litigated cases to help learn the ins and outs of the practice of law as plaintiff-side employment attorneys.
Ruiz adds, "I've done everything from wage-and-hour to fair employment housing cases. I've tried cases. I've gone through summary judgments. I've been through arbitration. My goal in this program is to teach everyone the things I wish I had known before I started, because knowing what I know now would have made me a better litigator for my entire career. I want to minimize these unknowns so that everyone starts out with a good base of knowledge to work from and build upon."
Asked about the pool of talent D.Law is seeking for the program, Ruiz answered, "The ideal candidate for the program is a second year or equivalent law student who is passionate about helping people, who cares about employment law as a practice field, and who wants to do excellent work. Our hope and intent is for Summer Associates to be offered a full-time position at D.Law, contingent upon our business needs, following their graduation from law school and passage of the bar. Some participants may be invited to continue to work with us during the school year to further develop their skills."
D.Law's Summer Associate Program is the first element in D.Law's new NextGen Academy, which is dedicated to finding, training, and mentoring the next generation of superstar employment law attorneys. Those interested in the program can discover more on D.Law's website, at www.d.law/careers.
