ALAMEDA CORRIDOR JOINT-AGENCY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TRAINING EXERCISE ALONG VITAL TRAIN ROUTE
COMPTON, Calif., March 9, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority (ACTA) successfully conducted its annual emergency response training exercise today with multiple agencies responding to potential scenarios involving a large-scale fire, hazardous material incident or an injured person inside the Corridor trench.
"Training exercises like today's are essential to ensuring all responding agencies are prepared to effectively manage emergencies and keep our community safe," said Michael Leue, Chief Executive Officer of ACTA. "This drill is a collective effort, made possible through the coordination and commitment of our local officials. Preparedness is vital, and thanks to today's effort, we will be ready should a crisis occur at the Corridor."
The Alameda Corridor is a 20-mile-long rail "expressway" that connects the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles to transcontinental rail routes near downtown Los Angeles and is vital to regional and national goods movement. The Corridor's completion ensured a more efficient and safer throughway for trains, eliminating numerous "at-grade" crossings in communities.
Today's drill involved multi-agency response teams from the Compton Fire Department, Downey Fire Department, Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD), City of Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD), Union Pacific Railroad, BNSF Railway, law enforcement and ACTA representatives.
More than 130 fire, police and other emergency services personnel took part in today's training exercise along a section of the Corridor in the City of Compton. After a few months of preparation and running through "table-top" scenarios, today's live training provided an opportunity for first responders to become familiar with and test the safety features of the Corridor. "By working together in a real-world environment, we gain important insights and strengthen our capability to respond swiftly and effectively should the unexpected happen," said Deputy Fire Chief Reginald Donald, Compton Fire. "The training our first responders participated in today is lifesaving and ensures coordination across our units that is critical to an efficient response to keep our first responders and neighbors safe."

About Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority (ACTA)
ACTA is the intergovernmental agency formed under the joint-powers authority of the cities of Los Angeles and Long Beach that oversees the dedicated section of railway from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to downtown Los Angeles (the "Corridor"). The $2+ billion Alameda Corridor project successfully improved conditions in once-impacted communities by consolidating three circuitous rail routes into a single route along Alameda Street. This direct route enables trains to operate efficiently at 40 mph and eliminates over 200 at-grade crossings. The Corridor provides capacity for trains to handle cargo by rail rather than trucks, which reduces congestion on regional freeways. These rail transportation improvements lead to economic benefits, improved community conditions, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and enhanced safety.
