Aflac Signs First External Reinsurance Deal With Japan Post Insurance
Werte in diesem Artikel
Aflac Incorporated AFL has announced that its subsidiary, Aflac Re Bermuda Ltd., has entered into a major reinsurance agreement with Japan Post Insurance Co., Ltd. The deal covers a selected block of whole life annuity policies under a coinsurance arrangement and turned effective on March 31, 2026. Financial details of the transaction were kept under wraps. Under the agreement, Japan Post Insurance will continue to manage and service the policies, while Aflac Re assumes a portion of the insurance and investment risk.Aflac Re was established as a key pillar of Aflac’s global capital strategy, originally focusing on internal reinsurance to support the capital needs of Aflac Life Insurance Japan. This deal is notable as it marks the unit’s first transaction with an external partner. It also strengthens Aflac’s long-standing relationship with Japan Post Insurance, which has been significant to its reach and distribution in Japan.Strategically, the move opens a new growth avenue by allowing Aflac to expand into third-party reinsurance and diversify its revenue streams. At the same time, it strengthens the company’s position in Japan and creates opportunities to offer similar solutions to other Japanese life insurers, helping them manage risk and optimize capital. The agreement is expected to improve Aflac’s capital efficiency by generating steady income through reinsurance and spreading risk across a broader portfolio. This should strengthen overall risk management and support more stable financial performance.AFL’s Stock Price PerformanceShares of Aflac have lost 2.2% over the past year compared with the industry’s decline of 5.5%.Image Source: Zacks Investment Research AFL Zacks Rank & Key PicksAFL currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Some better-ranked stocks in the broader Finance space are Heritage Insurance Holdings Inc.
