WellCare of Kentucky donates $190,000 to flood relief efforts

Health plan serves more than 87,000 Medicaid members in affected area 

LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- WellCare of Kentucky, a Centene Corporation company, announced details today about how they are providing relief efforts to meet the immediate and long-term needs of communities affected by flooding in Eastern Kentucky. WellCare will provide funds focused on restoration and rebuilding projects, dispersing financial assistance, and distributing goods to help survivors recovering and rebuilding post-disaster

The total donation is $190,000 and will go several local organizations providing ongoing, direct relief to those affected by the most recent flooding, including Governor Andy Beshear'sTeam Kentucky Flood Relief Fund. Funding will also go to 10 additional community-based organizations providing direct support to flood survivors in their region:

To support this ongoing crisis to date, WellCare has aided with essential needs like food, shelter, and medical care and will continue to monitor overall recovery efforts. Within the first week of the recent flooding disaster, WellCare supported Eastern Kentucky communities by: 

  • Communicating to thousands of affected members via text, automated phone messages, and social media channels to connect them with emergency community support and advise that emergency prescriptions lost in the storm would be replaced.
  • Reaching out with personal phone calls to high-risk members.
  • Providing both a 24-hour Crisis and a Nurse Advice Hotline.
  • Providing access to 24-hour behavioral and mental health services.
  • Shipping pallets of emergency supplies to key distribution centers and assisting with unloading and organizing to make the distribution easier for support organizations in the region.
  • Delivering thousands of personal care and hygiene items, which were donated and gathered, by WellCare associates.

Donated funds are being used to secure emergency shelter and access to hot meals as well as much needed medical treatment. Critical needs will be met by purchasing generators, dehumidifiers, beds, transportation, and food. Funding will also be used restore, refurnish, and even rebuild homes for thousands of affected residents.
