Award for Excellence in the Field of Mathematics, Co-Sponsored by IACR
First presented in 1998, the RSAC Conference Award for Excellence in the Field of Mathematics acknowledges the outstanding contributions of individuals and/or organizations whose work in cryptography and mathematics helps to advance the cybersecurity industry. Award recipients are determined by an esteemed judging committee which seeks to recognize innovation and ongoing contributions to the industry. For the fourth consecutive year, the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR) co-sponsored the Mathematics Award with RSAC Conference.

The recipients of the RSAC 2025 Conference Excellence in the Field of Mathematics Award are set to be awarded to:

Shai Halevi
Tuesday, April 29, West Stage Keynote at 11:30 AM

Dr. Shai Halevi has made remarkable contributions to many areas of cryptography, including fundamental theory, advanced cryptographic primitives, secure multi-party computations, homomorphic encryption, and cryptographic code obfuscation. He also initiated and co-developed the HElib software library for homomorphic encryption, and contributed to the cryptography community through IACR service, steering and program committees, development of conference software, and more. Shai is a Senior Principal Applied Scientist at AWS Cryptography. Before that, he was a research fellow in the Algorand Foundation and a principal researcher in the Cryptography Research Group in IBM T.J. Watson Research Center. Victor Shoup
Tuesday, April 29, West Stage Keynote at 11:30 AM

Dr. Victor Shoup has made multiple influential contributions to cryptography, spanning both theoretical and practical aspects. He is widely known for his work on the Cramer-Shoup cryptosystem, the first practical public-key encryption scheme proven secure against adaptive chosen ciphertext attacks, which has had lasting influence on both academia and industry. Other areas where Victor made significant contributions include secure multi-party computation and distributed systems, and homomorphic encryption. He also advanced the field of computational algebra via his celebrated work on factoring polynomials over finite fields and the development of the widely used NTL software library. Victor is currently a Principal Research Scientist at Offchain Labs and Professor Emeritus at NYU. Before that, he was a professor at NYU and a research scientist at the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory. He received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

"The IACR is proud to be co-sponsoring the Excellence in the Field of Mathematics Award again in 2025," said Michel Abdalla, President, IACR. "The award winners this year made significant contributions to the cryptography field, including multilinear maps and obfuscation (Halevi) and chosen-ciphertext security and hash proof systems (Shoup). Their incredible efforts in the field of mathematics and cryptography have been instrumental in the continued advancement of cybersecurity."
