Private Equity 2024 Year-in-Review and 2025 Outlook: Renewed Optimism in the M&A Market
RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Cherry Bekaert (the Firm) has released its annual year-end Private Equity Industry Report, highlighting significant developments that impacted the private investment market in 2024. The report reflects renewed optimism for private equity (PE) following two years of decline and destabilization – the longest stretch in over a decade.
Cherry Bekaert's #PrivateEquity Report highlights key investment market trends, projecting a robust outlook for 2025.Featuring data provided by Pitchbook and other sources, including proprietary Firm data, the report provides an in-depth analysis of the PE mergers and acquisitions (M&A) landscape and explores sector-specific trends and opportunities for funds, investors and financial sponsors.
Overall, U.S. private equity deal value grew 19% year-over-year, as dealmaking showed strong momentum. While there is still softness in the market, the industry is seeing increased stabilization and normalization, resulting in a generally positive outlook for 2025. A summary of other key findings include:
- The valuation gap is closing, causing more deals to be completed
- Signs point to a surge in PE exits in upcoming cycle
- Megadeals rivaled record levels of 2021
- Technology accounted for more than 20% of total buyout value
- Healthcare PE activity rebounded, spurred by large healthcare services and biopharma deals
- Improved financing conditions are paving the way for robust dealmaking in 2025
"The PE landscape is poised for continued growth and opportunity in 2025, fueled by innovation, strategic investments and dynamic market conditions," said Scott Moss, Partner and Financial Industry Practice Leader. "Funds that embrace the challenges and seize the opportunities will likely be rewarded."
For the past few years, cautious optimism surrounded the PE landscape, but little substantial improvement materialized. As we look ahead, there is renewed hope for growth and abundant dealmaking opportunities, buoyed by increased stability, easing monetary pressures and a relaxed regulatory environment.
