Newport Healthcare Releases 2024 Outcomes Report Highlighting Significant Patient Improvements in Mental Health Treatment
NASHVILLE, Tenn., March 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Newport Healthcare, a national network of evidence-based mental health treatment programs for adolescents and young adults, today announced key findings from its 2024 outcomes report, The Science of Healing, demonstrating significant improvements in the well-being of patients across its residential and outpatient programs. The data, collected and analyzed by the Newport Healthcare Center for Research and Innovation (CRI), reflects the organization's commitment to delivering measurable, life-changing results.
In 2024, Newport surveyed more than 4,800 adolescent and young adult patients across its residential and outpatient settings to assess outcomes related to depression, anxiety, suicide risk, trauma, and well-being. In addition, 188 patients who received Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) treatment for depression at PrairieCare TMS clinics—part of Newport Healthcare—were also surveyed. The report and its findings were independently reviewed by Colin Walsh, MD, MA, Associate Professor in the Department of Bioinformatics, Medicine, and Psychiatry at Vanderbilt University.
Key Findings Include:
- Remarkable improvements in well-being: Adolescent residential patients with anxiety and/or depression improved from "poor" to "well" over the course of treatment.
- Suicide risk significantly reduced: The number of adolescents experiencing suicidal thoughts dropped by 50% after five weeks of treatment. Among young adults in outpatient care, those reporting suicide plans fell from 1 in 10 to 1 in 100 after 12 weeks.
- Sustained impact after discharge: Data showed that the clinical gains made during residential treatment were maintained 90 days post-discharge.
- High satisfaction among referring mental health professionals: 95% of referring professionals reported that the patients they referred received exceptional care.
- TMS treatment efficacy: Nearly half of patients receiving TMS at PrairieCare experienced at least a 50% reduction in depressive symptoms.
"These results reflect the power of data-informed care and the dedication of our teams to truly transform lives," said Brian Setzer, CEO of Newport Healthcare. "Measuring outcomes is not only essential to understanding our impact—it's how we continually refine our treatment model and ensure we're delivering on our mission. I'm incredibly proud of this data, and more importantly, of the healing it represents for thousands of young people and their families."
Newport's outcomes are driven by its integrated, multidisciplinary model of care. Treatment is grounded in evidence-based modalities including Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT), EMDR, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and more. Each care team brings together a wide range of expertise—from clinical and psychiatric to experiential, nutritional, academic, and life skills—to create comprehensive, individualized treatment experiences that foster long-term healing.
Another essential element of Newport's treatment approach is family involvement. Outcomes data reveal that by week five of treatment, adolescent and young adult patients reported statistically significant improvements in attachment with both maternal and paternal figures. As one patient's mother reflects in the report, "We came to Newport broken, exhausted, and helpless. We came out with a new life. We are so grateful to the Newport team."
