Key Milestones in IEM's Journey

Demilitarizing Chemical Weapons
IEM has supported the U.S. chemical weapons stockpile destruction for over 30 years. Playing a key role in support of the safe and efficient disposal of chemical agents, IEM provided technical and public affairs support for facilities like the Anniston Chemical Agent Disposal Facility and Program Executive Office, Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives (PEO ACWA) since 1998. Additionally, IEM supported FEMA's Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP) through full-scale exercise support, contributing to the safety of surrounding communities and national security.

Hurricane Pam Exercise
In 2004, IEM started the FEMA Catastrophic Planning Project for Southeast Louisiana, culminating in the Hurricane Pam exercise. This innovative simulation, which modeled a Category 5 hurricane making landfall in New Orleans, helped emergency managers develop key strategies for large-scale disaster response. Many concepts and approaches testing during the exercise proved indispensable in the response to Hurricane Katrina the following year, saving countless lives. The planning framework developed by IEM became a national model for catastrophic planning, setting a new standard for disaster response across the country.

Supported Every Major CDBG-DR Effort
Since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, IEM has been at the forefront of disaster recovery, helping communities rebuild resiliently. A leader in CDBG-DR efforts nationwide, IEM played a key role in the fastest housing delivery during the 2016 Louisiana Great Floods recovery, helping restore over 13,000 homes within three years. With a proven track record of success, IEM sets the standard for disaster recovery, ensuring communities emerge stronger and more resilient to withstand future disasters.

COVID-19 Pandemic Response
IEM Health was instrumental in the nation's COVID-19 response, administering over 1.7 million vaccinations across 20 states. The team operated monoclonal antibody therapy clinics and established field hospitals treating hundreds of patients. IEM Health also supported nationwide operations by providing seven-day projections for logistical planning using advanced modeling and AI, creating a COVID-19 project dashboard offered at no cost. Managing over 4,500 medical staff and providing vital testing services, IEM Health demonstrated unwavering dedication to public health throughout the pandemic.

Committed to a Resilient Puerto Rico
IEM has been providing ongoing support in Puerto Rico for several years, deeply integrating into the fabric of the island's recovery efforts. Following Hurricanes Irma, Maria, and Fiona, IEM has worked closely with Puerto Rico's government and partners to strengthen the island's infrastructure and enhance preparedness for future impacts. With our largest office footprint based in Puerto Rico, we are proud to tap into local island-based talent to rebuild and restore housing and critical infrastructure. Our dedicated local team is key in ensuring a stronger, more resilient Puerto Rico.
