NEW YORK, Feb. 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- On National Grammar Day, March 4, hundreds of grammar nerds will descend upon SVA Theatre at 333 West 23rd Street in Manhattan for the New York City premiere of the docu-comedy Rebel with a Clause.

Described as an "epic grammar road trip" film, Rebel with a Clause follows language expert Ellen Jovin and her pop-up advice stand—known as the Grammar Table—to all 50 states as she answers grammar questions posed by total strangers on the street. The film is directed by Ms. Jovin's husband, Brandt Johnson.

The adventures of the Grammar Table have been showcased nationwide through upbeat coverage in the New York Times, National Public Radio, CBS Evening News, USA Today, the Rachael Ray Show and more than 100 other media outlets.

"People from every imaginable background visit the table to share a laugh, settle disputes and talk through their grammar insecurities," said Mr. Johnson. "These conversations take place in small towns and big cities, by bookstores and coffee shops, and on beaches and mountainsides.

"Yes, Rebel with a Clause is a grammar road trip movie. But its story transcends grammar. In a time of intense social and political division across America, the film presents a surprising answer to the question, 'How can we all get along?'"

Established in 2008 by author Martha Brockenbrough, National Grammar Day encourages discussion of grammar-related topics in both oral and written communications.

At the New York premiere, Mary Norris, former New Yorker copy editor and author of Between You & Me: Confessions of a Comma Queen, will lead a question-and-answer session with Ms. Jovin and Mr. Johnson.

The 85-minute movie had its world premiere at Planet Word in Washington, D.C., on January 10, debuting to a high-spirited, sold-out crowd.

The March 4 premiere marks the next major step in the film's nationwide journey, with plans for screenings at universities, libraries, film festivals, senior centers, schools and businesses throughout the country.

Ms. Jovin's book Rebel with a Clause: Tales and Tips from a Roving Grammarian (HarperCollins) attracted widespread critical praise and was a national bestseller in 2022. It is being published in paperback on May 20.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by visiting https://www.rebelwithaclause.com.

"The premiere of Rebel with a Clause offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity to celebrate the art of language," said Mr. Johnson. "Join us for an evening of film, discussion and fun as we honor the unsung hero of communication: grammar."
