Art & Altered States: Redefining the Psychedelic Renaissance
SAN DIEGO, Feb. 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Embrace new possibilities where California counterculture collides with the exclusive world of contemporary art. Coterie Public invites you to experience the transformative power of creativity and holistic healing at an immersive event uniting people through art, wellness, and spirituality. Curated by Coco, visionary San Francisco yogi and art dealer, founder of Coterie Public, this inspiring event introduces art, sound, yoga, and meditation as psychedelic experiences in and of themselves.
Speaking openly about a transcendental mushroom trip that obliterated her lifelong anxiety, Coco claims she would have never experienced entheogens without having first found creativity. "Art, which I was encouraged to explore as a young child, was the first thing that saved me. Yoga was the second. Psychedelics took me to an entirely different level," she shares. Believing these practices should be accessible to everyone, Coterie Public provides a legal gateway through art and other healing modalities for personal growth and well-being.
This free event will take place on February 15th from 4 PM to 7 PM at Abpópa Hillcrest in San Diego. Attendees are encouraged to "come as you are," bringing an open mind clear of expectations. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a unique forum where they can share their own stories, fostering a space for open dialogue. The event will also feature a sound bath, guided meditation, sustainable fashion, and enlightening guest speakers from Mycelium Matters, Standard Planet, and American Fungi.
The highlight of the event will undoubtedly be viewing the creative brilliance of Vincent Cordelle, a paragon artist and Renaissance man crossing mediums and materials. Exemplifying limitless imagination, Cordelle's oeuvre—encompassing painting, sculpture, printmaking, furniture, architectural interiors, and more—sends messages of hope for humanity. Using art itself as a means of expanding the mind, challenging perceptions, and journeying through the cosmos, the thirty-two-year-old's broader vision of "harmonious design" integrates every aspect of a structure's exterior and interior. Executed during the artist's residency, Cordelle transformed a stark hotel room and outdoor concrete slab from a blank canvas into an Architectural Digest-worthy space and oasis. A testament to his skill and creativity, the private residence will be on view in conjunction with the exhibition—mainly comprised of small- and large-scale high-contrast oil paintings.
Much like a sculptor chiseling a block, Cordelle "carves out" figures with his brush from marbled abstract expressionist layers laid by his own hand. Primarily painting in black and white, subjects are portrayed in anonymity as the Collective, rather than individuals, emphasizing our shared human experience. Venerating mankind's miraculous accomplishments, viewers are reminded of our grace and potentiality, along with the sublime.
While Cordelle's artworks are available for acquisition, the public showing is also an initiative to locate potential candidates for the artist's next on-site residency project. Private virtual or in-person exhibition tours and interviews with the artist are available by appointment.
